I often stop and wonder what we are doing in life? As we pass through life what is the reason to be and what are the things that we have to achieve in this journey? I have no answers.
What we do in life or what we strive to do in life depends up on the value system that each of us have. These value systems are constructed over years of our life contributed to by our family, teachers, friends and various experiences in life. For example (simplistically speaking) if the value system for a person says that money is ultimate then all efforts and actions of the person will be directed towards hoarding money; alternatively if the value system is about 'knowledge' then the person will direct his life towards achieving knowledge.
A value system is not a single thought - different aspects of life have different versions of the value system driving the actions in that aspect of life. If there is a unifying value system that is the DNA of all the value systems; it is a possibility but I have not realized that yet. So, we as individuals with our highly endowed brain take every situation in life and pass it through a cluster of value systems (often conflicting?) and take a decision on what our response to the situation should be.
All said and done ultimately each one of us is trying to achieve something the only difference is the extent of ambition to achieve the set goal and of course the goal varies too. No one knows if the goal one has set is right or wrong because these are not absolutes. Right is what is generally accepted by our society. It can be stretched to say that right is something that our conscience allows but we must realize that this conscience is nothing but the maze of value systems that we just talked of and this value system is also largely driven by society (etc etc).
Assuming, one also knows what is right and what is wrong and also assume that one is on the way to achieving (or achieved) the set goals in life.. but so what!!
Ultimately, as I said above we are just passing through.. nothing belongs to us.. and we belong to nothing. We are a reality that does not exist. We can never be anything. We will always be nothing no matter what we do.
It is probably this realization of our 'nothingness' that we have entities life 'God' who we look up to take care of us because we by ourselves are nothing. While what is God is itself another question and if you think it is nothing but again that clutch of value systems that creates our definition of God (and am not talking deities).
We can never be anything and thats what I call as 'Ever Never'.
